Solar in BC? Reasons to Go Solar

Energy Savings

One of the most incentivizing reasons to go solar is the massive savings on your energy bill. Customers can expect a much lower energy bill, and a lot of the times completely eliminating their bill. As energy prices go up, the savings become greater.

$5,000 Rebate

The Canada Greener Homes Initiative grants from $125 to $5,000 to get a part of your costs back for eligible solar home retrofits and up to $600 as a maximum contribution toward the total costs of your pre-and post-retrofit EnerGuide evaluations.

$40k Interest-Free Loan

The Canada Greener Homes Initiative grants interest-free loans from $5k-$40k with a repayment term of 10 years to help you undertake major solar home retrofits. There is a process to be deemed eligible, but we will help you throughout the whole process to ensure you are getting the maximum amount of incentives possible.

Net Metering

BC’s net-metering program credits your account when you create more energy than you are consuming. When you consume more energy than you are creating those credits are automatically used at the same rate! If at the end of the year you created more energy than used, you will receive a cheque from BC Hydro.

Increase Home Value

Studies have shown that for each 1kW of solar installed, your home’s value could increase up to $6k. Solar panels can add up to 3-4% to the value of your home. On top of the extra monetary value that comes with solar panels, homes with solar panels also tend to sell faster than those without.

No PST

Solar system installations in BC are PST-exempt, which means you save an additional 7% on the full installation price.

FAQ’s

More Questions? Here Are The Answers!

  • Solar panels will ultimately pay for themselves and then some, though the amount of time it takes to do so varies. In BC, most solar installations reach break-even within 8–16 years and ROI of 10-15% yearly.

  • The industry standard for the lifespan of solar panels is 25-30 years. However, a solar panel won’t die after 25-30 years – rather, its power output will decrease a significant amount below what the manufacturer projected

  • The notion that solar in BC doesn’t work is false. In fact, southern BC matches countries like Germany and Japan which are solar leaders in solar production. According to National Resources Canada, the average solar system in British Columbia can produce roughly 1004 kWh of electricity per KW of panels annually.

  • Most solar power systems for a home will range from 4kW to 15kW although this range can be broadened. The average cost for a home solar power system in BC will typically range from $12,000 to $30,000 fully installed. This number can change according to a multitude of different factors.
